The three-second contract every Reel signs with its viewer
Earn the fourth second, or lose the sale.

The opening frame of a Reel is a promise. In the first second or two, the viewer decides whether this video is worth their time. Everything after that is a negotiation they can walk away from at any moment. Brands that sell on short-form video design those first seconds before they design anything else.
Make the first frame a promise
Pick one way in and commit to it:
- Movement: something already happening when the video starts.
- A face: a person looking at the camera, mid-sentence.
- A question: one the viewer wants answered.
- A reveal: the before, with the after coming.
Never open on a logo, a slow fade or an empty room. Those are the first things people skip.

Every cut has to pay rent
Keep shots short and purposeful. If a shot doesn't add information, emotion or momentum, cut it. Pacing is what keeps people watching long enough to reach your offer.
Design for sound off
Many people watch without sound. Add clear on-screen captions and text that tell the story on their own, and treat sound and music as a bonus for those who turn it on.
Shoot vertical from the start
Cropping horizontal footage into 9:16 loses the frame you planned. Shoot vertical, keep the subject in the centre and leave space at the top and bottom for captions and interface buttons.
Plan the shoot for a month, not a post

One well-planned shoot day, with a shot list built around several hooks, can give a brand a month of Reels and a set of ad variations. That is far cheaper than shooting one video at a time.
End with one clear action
Tell people exactly what to do next: book, order, DM or visit. One action, said and shown.

Questions we get asked
How long should an Instagram Reel be?
As long as it stays interesting. Many effective Reels are under 30 seconds, but a strong story can hold longer. Cut anything that slows it down.
Do Reels need trending audio?
Trending audio can help reach, but it isn't required. Clear captions and a strong hook matter more, especially for ads, where licensed or original music is safer.
Can the same video run as a Reel and an ad?
Yes. Vertical videos made for Reels often work as ads too, especially when you plan a few different opening hooks to test.
Want this done for your brand?
We plan the hook before we press record.
